During this same era, the ancient Egyptians held the belief in the notion of heka, commonly translated as “magic” but more accurately as “divine creative force.” They believed that the deities utilized heka to formulate the universe, and that humans could tap into this same creative energy through sacred words known as hekau.

In Buddhism, “right speech” stands as a fundamental principle of the Eightfold Path, accentuating truthfulness, kindness, and the karmic weight of our words.

Kabbalah instructs that Hebrew characters contain divine creative potency. Words function as manifestation tools. Hermeticism, Thelema, and Wicca emphasize how thoughts and language redefine reality. Rituals, chants, and invocations are performed to facilitate spiritual and energetic transformations.

Ancient civilizations recognized a truth that many of us overlook: each word we voice acts as a seed. These seeds blossom into flowers or wither into weeds.

Nevertheless, today we frequently communicate on autopilot. We engage in gossip, express dissatisfaction, lie, or speak without contemplation. Often, we utter hurtful, offensive, or cruel remarks. We distribute words like loose change, overlooking their genuine worth. Unintentionally, we may sow seeds of negativity, fear, or discord.

I occasionally speculate on how the wise ancients, who revered words as sacred tools, would perceive our thoughtless exchanges. They meticulously engraved incantations on stone with deep respect. In contrast, we casually send voice messages and share videos like verbal mines and toxic curses, often heedless of their implications. If a high priest of Heka or a Babylonian scribe were to browse today’s social media comments, they might conclude that a malignant curse had befallen the world. Somewhere, a historical oracle or high priest is undoubtedly shaking their head!

The encouraging news? We have the same capacity to cultivate seeds of peace, joy, and love through the words we articulate. That’s the essence of prayers, mantras, chants, and affirmations: by reiterating positive, intentional words, we transform our energy and reprogram our thoughts. Over time, words become our reality. They reshape our thoughts, feelings, and actions, foster our joy and fulfillment, and realize our dreams and aspirations.

Each word you utter emits an energetic frequency that doesn’t simply dissipate into the atmosphere. It resonates back to you.
